GO SEVA AT THE ASHRAM

Go seva  at  Hare Krishna Ashram, vizianagaram.

The  importance of serving cows is shown by Lord Krishna  himself, who appeared on this planet  5000 years ago and served  the cows in his  pastimes at  Vraja bhumi.
His name “Gopal” indicates that he is the protector of cows. GO or GAU means cow and” Pal or pala “ means the protector.
Another of Lord Krishna’s names “GOVINDA” means one who gives pleasure to the cows.
Lord Krishna gives so much importance to the cows that his transcendental  abode is called “GOLOKA”,
In this way Lord Krishna himself showed the way to simple Living and high thinking.
Serve the cows,  cultivate the land,  worship  Lord Krishna  and  in  this  way  our human  life  can become perfect.
In the Vishnu purana 1.19.65  it is said “ Let me offer my humble obeisances unto Lord Krishna, who is the  worshippable  Deity for all brahminical   men,  who is the well wisher of cows and brahmanas, and who is always benefiting the whole world. I offer my obeisances to the personality of Godhead, known as Krsna and Govinda”.
We  shoul d  develop our desi breeds of cows and protect them from extinction. Cross breeding with jersey and other  foreign breeds has destroyed our native breeds of cows.
The desi cow is the real cow, these foreign breeds of cows are something else. The desi cow’s dung
contains millions of micro organisms to make our land fertile, The cow”s urine and dung have been used
in Ayurvedic medicines since time immemorial. Cow urine is used as a purifier in many vedic ceremonies. The glories of the cow are unlimited.
IN many Ashrams  in India, The programme of cow protection  has started seriously. Even though our ashram is a small one, we took up goseva  as  a service to lord Krishna.
Since 2005, our service has started   and now we have a desi cow  and a bull, apart from  four cross breed cows   and calves .
We should all endeavour to serve the cows, take care of a cow if possible, Otherwise try  to feed a cow whenever you get an opportunity, render  assistance to  goshalas   in whatever  way  you can.
